Kartanegara Jazz introduces the Pure Artisanal line from Harum Oleh Memori: a collection built around unusually high concentrations of precious natural materials, including regional oud oils, natural musk, grey ambergris tinctures, botanical absolutes and traditional resins.

The line is not intended to make these materials polite or anonymous. Their textures, irregularities and living character remain present within the composition. Each perfume is shaped slowly, allowing its rarest ingredients to speak with clarity while still becoming part of a complete and wearable structure.

Kartanegara Jazz begins in Kalimantan.

At its foundation are three incense-grade oud oils from Kutai, Malinau and Tarakan. Each reveals a radically different expression of the island.

Kutai oud is the most lifted of the three, opening with a cool mint-like clarity before revealing a luminous yellow-floral character. It brings freshness and vertical movement to the composition, drawing the heavier materials upward.

Malinau oud is softer and more voluptuous. Its texture is unusually buttery, accompanied by a ripe blueberry-like fruitiness that gives the wood an unexpected sense of colour and generosity.

Tarakan oud provides contrast. Green, resinous and distinctly bitter, it introduces tension beneath the sweeter citrus, fruit and balsamic materials. Its darker edges prevent the composition from becoming too smooth or indulgent.

Together, the three ouds behave less like a single base note than a trio—distinct voices listening, responding and changing position as the fragrance develops.

Their depth is covered by an exceptionally smooth accord of Siberian deer musk tincture and natural grey ambergris tincture. The musk softens the sharper contours of the oud, giving it warmth, intimacy and the sensation of worn skin. Ambergris introduces radiance and movement, lifting the heavier materials and allowing air to circulate between them. Dense as the composition may be, it never becomes static.

Above this dark foundation is an opening of almost excessive brightness.

Sweet orange, tangerine, satsuma, bergamot and neroli arrive as a generous wash of juicy, creamy citrus. Rather than cutting sharply through the fragrance, they coat the woods and animalic materials in golden light. Orange blossom absolute extends their presence into the heart, carrying the citrus from fresh peel toward something fuller, floral and softly narcotic.

Cypress and black spruce absolutes introduce a green, coniferous tension beneath the fruit. Their cool aromatic character connects naturally with the mint-like freshness of Kutai oud and the bitter green resins of Tarakan.

At the centre, mate absolute provides the composition’s pulse. Its dry, leafy bitterness holds the citrus, oud and animalic notes together without smoothing away their contrasts. Lovage adds an unusual herbal density, while cistus, Peru balsam, opoponax and labdanum form a resinous body that feels warm, polished and slowly smouldering.

Oakmoss deepens the shadows. Kupang sandalwood brings a creamy, quietly spiced softness. Beneath them, the three Kalimantan ouds continue to change position: the minty yellow florals of Kutai rising toward the citrus, Malinau’s buttery blueberry richness melting into sandalwood and balsams, and Tarakan’s bitter green resins holding the composition firmly to the earth.

The word Jazz describes the way these materials interact. Kartanegara Jazz is not built as a rigid procession in which one note disappears before the next begins. Its themes return. Citrus appears again inside the resins. Ambergris illuminates the oud. Musk moves between skin and wood. Mate interrupts the richness with a dry green rhythm. The three ouds trade places, sometimes performing individually and sometimes merging into a single, resonant chord.

The result is opulent without becoming ceremonial, animalic without aggression and citrus-rich without conventional freshness. It moves between brightness and shadow, refinement and instinct, composition and improvisation.

Kartanegara Jazz is the opening statement of Harum Oleh Memori’s Pure Artisanal line: a perfume of rare naturals presented not as decoration, but as the substance of the fragrance itself.
