Wacko Maria

Guilty Parties · Paradise Tokyo
The Tokyo house that began as a record bar, not a boutique — and a perfume house that scores every bottle to a record. Two guilty parties, one daydream.
A daydream, not a deal. HoM Haute has no affiliation with Wacko Maria — this is an imagined partnership, written out of admiration. No logos or trademarks are used.

Wacko Maria was founded in 2005 in Nakameguro, Tokyo, by two retired footballers who loved records more than the game — first as a music bar called ROCK STEADY, then as a label called Guilty Parties. Aloha shirts, jazz and dub, film noir and vintage Americana, all reworked with Japanese hands. We are a one-man, jazz-souled house that keeps a Listening Room and presses every scent to a record. Different products entirely. The same starting point: the music came first.

Two houses that opened a bar first

Neither of us began in the trade we ended up in. That is the whole kinship.

“Two footballers who opened a record bar in Nakameguro — and only later started pressing shirts.”
ROCK STEADY before the label. Aloha shirts cut from a love of soul, dub and jazz. The clothes were always a sleeve for the music.
“One man who built a Listening Room before a counter — and only then started pressing scent.”
Every fragrance scored to a record, because a scent is incomplete without the sound it should be worn to. The bottle was always a sleeve for a feeling.

What we'd press together

The imagined collaboration
A Guilty Parties pressing, in scent.
The Aloha Map
Their signature is the aloha shirt. So the all-over print becomes the fragrance — a tropical scene that is secretly the note pyramid: citrus suns at the collar, a heart of frangipani and tuberose across the chest, vetiver palms and oud shadows at the hem. Wear the scent; wear its map. One shirt, one bottle, the same composition read two ways.

Killer Tunes, pressed
Wacko Maria runs a broadcast, not just a brand. So we release the scent the way they release music — a 7″ single: an A-side fragrance and a B-side flanker, a numbered run, the flacon as the picture sleeve, a real record in the box cut for the Listening Room. You don't buy it; you press it.

Two Paradises
Paradise Tokyo meets Paradise Jakarta — a two-bottle set, one city each. Tokyo at midnight: neon rain, dub smoke, cold concrete. Jakarta after the call to prayer: kretek clove, frangipani, warm asphalt and rain on tin. Two late-night capitals of taste, the same guilty party, worn end to end.
Tokyo × Jakarta · a duo of cities
A night at ROCK STEADY
The bar that started them all, meeting the room that scores our scents. A pop-up where every drink arrives with a record and a fragrance, the Listening Room goes to Nakameguro for one night, and the dress code is a single aloha shirt — the one whose print is the perfume you're wearing.

The capsule, if it were real

What would actually come out of it — an imagined Guilty Parties × HoM Haute pressing: four scents and a shirt.

The 7″ · A-side
Paradise Tokyo
Nakameguro at midnight — neon rain on cold concrete, dub smoke curling under a low ceiling, a wet ginkgo leaf.
yuzu · shiso · dub smoke · wet concrete · hinoki · vetiver
The 7″ · B-side
Paradise Jakarta
The other city, the same hour — kretek clove on warm asphalt, frangipani after the rain, sweet black coffee and tobacco.
clove kretek · frangipani · wet asphalt · kopi tubruk · tobacco · benzoin
Bar edition
Rock Steady
The bar that made the brand — aged rum and lime, cigarette smoke in velvet, warm vinyl and the leather of a worn banquette.
aged rum · lime · smoke · warm vinyl · leather · dark amber
Summer eau · the shirt scent
Aloha
The all-over print, in the air — the bright, easy eau cut to be worn with the shirt whose pattern is its own note map.
bergamot · coconut water · tuberose · frangipani · white vetiver
Pressed as a pair — Paradise Tokyo / Paradise Jakarta as the 7″ single, Rock Steady the limited bar edition, Aloha the all-over summer eau. All imagined; none for sale.

“Two houses that began in a bar, not a boutique — one pressing shirts, one pressing scent.”

Why this one is beyond fragrance

The fragrance-house daydreams are about materials and method. This one isn't. Wacko Maria makes clothes; we make scent — but both of us are really in the business of an atmosphere: a late room, a record on, a feeling you can put on your body. That is the whole reason it belongs here, under beyond fragrance. We don't want their formula. We want their Friday night.
