“Every great perfume should tell a story.”

He came out of IT, fell in during the pandemic, and now runs two houses at once: one where he tells his own stories, and one where he helps other people tell theirs.

Part one · The person

The formula came later

Before the two houses there was a man in IT, a pandemic, and one bottle that rearranged what he thought perfume was for.

Tap the underlined phrases. Seven things on this page can be handled.

Dekito did not arrive through a family business or a school. He arrived through one bottle during the pandemic, when everyone was indoors and small obsessions had room to grow. A friend suggested the business side. Curiosity turned into raw materials, formulas, technique, and then a community of people who took the subject as seriously as he had started to. Solivagant came out of that, his own house, where every release is a chapter of his own life. Ecofragrantica came after, a studio in Cileungsi where he develops fragrance for other people and sells the materials to make it. He is thirty minutes from Bogor and about a thousand formulas in.

01
How would you describe your relationship with fragrance?

Fragrance has become my way of preserving memories. Every perfume I create begins with a feeling, a place, or a moment that deserves to be remembered. For me, scent is one of the most personal forms of storytelling.

Six strips and a clock
This is what he is holding on the cover, and what he does before anything else each morning. A blotter is not a bottle: it is a material stripped of skin, alcohol and flattery, and it tells a different truth at every hour. Tap a strip, then move the clock.

Citrus
Bergamot

Bright, cologne-clean, a little bitter under the sweetness. It is doing everything it will ever do, right now.

What you just learnedPerfumers do not judge a material once. They judge it on a schedule. Citrus is honest and brief, florals need an hour before they stop being green, and the resins and musks are still saying something at bedtime. The morning smell test is a habit of checking whether yesterday still holds.
02
A scent that takes you somewhere.

Pantura, one of my creations under Solivagant, is inspired by the long drives along Indonesia’s northern coastal road whenever I travelled back home. The changing landscape, warm breeze, roadside stops, and the feeling of returning became the emotional foundation of the fragrance. Every time I smell it, I remember that journey.

Handle this · 02
Three hundred and forty kilometres
A perfume built from a drive is really a perfume built from a sequence. Take the road he takes. The odometer runs, the light goes, the radio drifts, and the air changes every time the landscape does.

What you just learnedNobody smells a journey all at once. A travel perfume is a compression problem: seven hours of changing air has to become one accord that still moves. Pantura solves it the way the road does, by keeping salt at the top, green in the middle, and the smell of arriving at the bottom where it lasts longest.

The north coast. Brackish water, paddle wheels, and salt in everything.
Workers bent in a green rice field
And then, for a hundred kilometres, this on both sides of the car.

03
What are you wearing these days, and why?

These days I mostly wear my own creations because they reflect what I’m exploring creatively at the moment. I also enjoy warm compositions with boozy, woody, and amber nuances. They feel comforting, confident, and timeless.

04
A small daily ritual that matters to you.

Before starting my day, I spend a few minutes smelling raw materials. It’s my daily olfactory training that keeps my nose sharp. After that, I usually study fragrance formulas, blend new trials, and continue developing perfumes for Solivagant and fragrance projects at Ecofragrantica.

05
What does good taste mean to you?

Good taste isn’t about owning the rarest perfume or knowing every niche brand. It’s about wearing something that feels right for you. When a fragrance gives you comfort, confidence, and feels authentic to who you are, that’s good taste.

06
One belief you would defend.

Every great perfume should tell a story. A pleasant scent may be remembered for a moment, but a meaningful fragrance stays with people long after it disappears.

Aroma sebagai objek kenangan.

Scent as an object of memory.

Solivagant is his own house, and it is named for a word that means a person who wanders alone. Everything in it starts as something that happened to him.

The house

Where he tells his own stories

A shelf that keeps growing, bottles finished by hand, and a series built on the eleven metres of Javanese poetry. He is the only person in it.

In his words: Solivagant is a space where he translates his own memories, journeys and emotions into fragrance. Each perfume begins with a story from his life. Pantura came out of the drive home. Every release, he says, is a chapter of a personal journey captured in a bottle. The Instagram bio says the rest of it in five words: unveiling the essence of solitude.

The house line, in his own language

Rasa di Atas Formula.

Feeling above formula.

We do not chase trends or the taste of the market. Every Solivagant fragrance is an atmosphere, assembled out of obsession, intuition, and the belief that a perfume should change the way you carry yourself in a room.

The first metre of the Macapat cycle, and the first perfume of a series that intends to walk a whole life. His own caption for it: a picture of the life of a foetus inside the mother.

Why it is hereA one-person house cannot out-spend anyone, so it has to out-mean them. A shelf where every bottle is attached to something that actually happened is a different proposition from one assembled off a mood board.
The label

Solivagant Extended

Everything leaving the studio right now carries this label. There is no main line and no second line under it: Extended is simply what Solivagant is at the moment. The bottles are finished by hand, so no two of them leave identical.

Eleven metres of a life
Maskumambang is the first perfume of a series built on the Tembang Macapat, the eleven Javanese poetic metres that are traditionally read as the stages of one human life from the womb to the grave. Turn the wheel.
MaskumambangMetre 1 of 11
The unborn
Maskumambang

Gold floating in water. The child not yet born, suspended, entirely dependent, with no say in anything. Sung in a metre that is heavy and full of sorrow.

Released. His own caption: a picture of the life of a foetus inside the mother.
What you just learnedThe Macapat is not a set of songs, it is a curriculum. Each metre has a fixed shape and a fixed emotional job, and taken in order they teach a person how a life is supposed to go. Building a perfume series on it means committing, in public, to eleven releases and to their order.

Twenty per cent of something else
One of the releases is carried in an extra twenty per cent of solvent made from bekonang and arak Bali, two Indonesian distillates, instead of neutral perfumer’s alcohol. Mix the carrier and see what you have done.
Perfumer’s alcohol
80%
Bekonang
10%
Arak Bali
10%

Mostly neutral, with a tenth each of the two local distillates. Clean lift, and a faint sugarcane warmth underneath that a lab alcohol would never give you.

What you just learnedPerfumer’s alcohol is deliberately built to smell of nothing, so the composition is the only thing in the bottle. A traditional distillate does the opposite: it brings its own sweetness, its own rougher tail, and its own place of origin. Using it is an argument that the carrier is part of the composition rather than a neutral van.
How the site asks you to choose

Five moods, not five families

Solivagant does not sort its shelf by note pyramid. It sorts by how you want to feel, which is a quietly radical thing for a perfume shop to do.

Tenang & Minimalcalm and minimalHangat & Nostalgiawarm and nostalgicGelap & Moodydark and moodyLembut & Romantissoft and romanticFreshfresh

Under the first of them, the site simply says: clean citrus, soft musk, and a light texture for everyday wear. No pyramid, no top-heart-base, no lecture.

Where he helps other people tell theirs

Solivagant is one man and his own shelf. Ecofragrantica is a room in Cileungsi with four hundred and fifty raw materials, fifty brand partners and a thousand formulas behind it, all of it in its first year. He co-founded it, and it is where most of his week goes.

His own summary is the cleanest one anybody has written: if Solivagant is where I tell my own stories, Ecofragrantica is where I help others tell theirs through scent. The studio’s own line is about opening a closed trade: it exists, they say, to make perfumery more open and more structured, on the belief that every brand deserves access to good materials and a professional development process rather than a factory that will not show its workings.

Arrives
Curiosity, and usually one bottle someone cannot stop thinking about.
Leaves
Vocabulary. The ability to name what you are smelling, which is where everything else starts.
What you just learnedMost people meet perfumery at the last door, the finished bottle. A studio like this exists because the first three doors are the expensive ones, and a small brand cannot build them alone. Four hundred and fifty materials on a shelf is not a shop, it is the price of entry to the whole craft, and a year is a very short time in which to have bought it.

Choose one, two or three materials above.

What you just learnedA perfume is not a list of nice smells, it is a structure in time. Something has to open it, something has to hold the middle once the opening has gone, and something has to still be there at the end of the day. Three materials chosen well can do all three jobs. Three chosen badly can do one of them, three times.

Where he leaves us
I believe perfumery is a lifelong journey of learning. Every material has its own personality, every formula teaches something new, and every perfume is an opportunity to preserve a memory.

He hopes the fragrances he makes become part of someone else’s story, the way other people’s fragrances became part of his. Given that he starts every morning by smelling raw materials before he speaks to anyone, the odds are good.
